  • Wed Prayer Together – April 21, 2021

Our God is a God who notices small details. I was out for a walk the other day, when I looked down and saw some shell from a robin’s egg. Isn’t that a remarkable colour, “robin’s egg blue?” It seemed like a long time since I had seen a robin’s egg shell last spring. So much has happened in our world since last year at this time. Yet, here we are again, able to be delighted by the sights and sounds and fragrances of spring. God is in every small detail of the delicate and colourful  flowers that bloom; the enthusiastic birds that sing; the fresh and pleasant smells that waft in the air. God’s attention to small details in nature affirms that God gives attention to the seemingly smallest of details in our lives. Nothing that happens escapes God’s notice. In Luke 12:6,7, we can read, “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” It is a reality of our relationship with God that we can be reminded of all around us. The smallest of birds is not forgotten by God and neither are we. We will often be able to see tiny sparrows hopping around or flying into the trees or bushes. Each sighting can be a prompt to acknowledge God’s tender care for each little bird and for each of us. There are some, who in the middle of this pandemic, have concluded that God must have forgotten us. Our weekly prayers are an opportunity to remember how much we matter to God and to give thanks to God that He certainly has not forgotten us. Some of the smallest details of this created world bring us the most pleasure. This includes the colour of the shell of a robin’s egg. We will join in our WEDNESDAY PRAYER TOGETHER this week, confident that God knows and cares about every detail of our lives. Time is set aside tomorrow April 21st at 1 pm for anyone who wants to come to God in prayer using the prayer below as well as personal prayers that God is eager to hear.

Our loving God thank You for how much we are worth to You. The tiniest of birds is not forgotten by You and neither are any one of us. We find inspiration in the world around us in this season of the year. We find encouragement knowing that every detail of our lives matters to you. Sometimes our experience with people is feeling that they are eager to get on to the next thing and don’t want us taking up their time. God, You are not like that and we thank You. Jesus, Your Son, taught us to believe and to know that even the hairs of our heads are numbered. If the smallest of details of our lives is regarded by You, then obviously You care so deeply for us. God, we conclude that we are never forgotten by You. Please forgive us for the times that we forget You. Forgive us for the times we have made other people or things more important than You. Forgive us for not trusting the truth that You do give thought to the smallest of details about us and our experiences. This prayer time can be a time to renew our faith in You. We want to do that now. We want to recognize that You took time to create a beautiful colour for the shells of robins’ eggs and you took time to create each of us as we are. Sometimes we are quite aware of our flaws and do not see the beauty of how You have designed each of us. This whole awareness of being designed by You and having purpose because of You, our Creator, is a truth we want to cherish. God, You in your love and grace change how we see ourselves and You change how we see others. Just as You have carefully and uniquely designed each of us, You have also carefully and uniquely designed every other person. Please instill in us a respect and delight for the small details that make up each person we know and will come to know. It is a privilege to have the chance to see people and our world through Your eyes. When we see each other through Your eyes God, it breaks down division and prejudice and discrimination. Oh God, please expedite this essential work of transformation in each of us. Help us to appreciate our different attributes that reflect the smallest of details that cause You to look on us with delight. Our God we know that this transformation will need to be the work of Your Holy Spirit. We welcome this Divine activity and anticipate seeing ourselves and others as Your chosen ones, extremely  loved by You.. We want to love You and to love ourselves and to love our neighbours as ourselves. This is only possible God when You bring it about. Thank You for this possibility through being in relationship with You our God who has given us life and who wants to lead us in the way everlasting! We bring You this prayer as we bring You ourselves, our God, Who takes time to notice the little birds and each of us. IN JESUS’ NAME. AMEN.
